Mumbai: The Crime Branch of Mumbai Police has arrested car designer Dilip Chhabria’s sister Kanchan in a fraud case. Kanchan is the CEO of Dilip Chhabria Design Pvt. Ltd. The case relates to comedian Kapil Sharma’s 2017 order of Vanity Van.
Kapil paid Rs 5.7 crore
Kapil Sharma had lodged a complaint of fraud against Dilip Chhabria and his company. A case was later registered against him. “In 2017, I paid Rs 5.7 crore to Dilip Chhabria’s company to design a vanity van,” Kapil said in his complaint. But this vanity has not yet been received. Nihal Bajaj, a senior sales executive for the company, has been arrested in the case.
Arrested from restaurant
The Crime Intelligence Unit of the Crime Branch of the Mumbai Police arrested Kanchan on Wednesday (January 27) from a restaurant. Officials said Kanchan was constantly trying to escape arrest. Finally, the police found her location and arrested her from a restaurant near Marine Drive. She and Nihal Bajaj will be produced in court today.
Dilip Chhabria was handcuffed last month
Dilip Chhabria was arrested last month on the basis of intelligence received by the Crime Intelligence Unit. Three cases have been registered against him, including a Rs 100 crore financial scam. Many of the vehicles he built were forged in various RTOs and borrowed from financial companies on the basis of false documents. Apart from this, a person from Chennai had lodged a complaint of fraud of Rs 25 crore and Kapil Sharma of Rs 5.7 crore.
